Nazareth Academy Students Attend Harvard Program

     Cambridge -   Eleven young women from the sophomore, junior and senior class from Nazareth Academy, the new Independent Classical Christian Academy for young women at 27 Cordis St. attended an intensive two-day event sponsored by the Harvard Student Agencies Summer Leadership Program.

     This event was designed to train high school students in the fundamentals of business leadership. Originally held exclusively for Harvard Summer School students, the success of the initial program led to this year's expansion program to allow highly motivated students from other schools to participate. The program targets high school sophomores juniors and seniors who wish to enlarge their knowledge on leadership concepts and values.

     Facilitated by Harvard College, Business, and Law School students, the program is structured to provide leadership skills relevant both in and out of school. The program featured workshops given by Harvard Student Agencies, the Leadership Institute at Harvard College, the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiations and the Harvard Business School.

     Social Entrepreneurship Initiative to provide crucial leadership skills to participants. The interpersonal skills developed through combining case studies and doing team work are useful in learning how to thrive in a business environment. The curriculum aimed to develop and enhance the leadership skills necessary to thrive in high school and beyond through collaborative teamwork.

     "The goal of this program is to produce a new class of leaders:  Leaders who are concerned with the preservation of ethics and the expansion of social enterprise. Dr. Patricia Capone Tamagini, head of school at Nazareth Academy and Phyllis Crotty Morrison, principal of Nazareth Academy, are very proud of the future leaders from our premier school who attended this outstanding program," said a spokesperson.

     Students attending the program were:  Rachel Schofield of Wakefield (Rachel earned second place for developing an "Outstanding, Workable Business Plan"), Danielle Onorio of Wakefield, Erica Lauria of Arlington, Molly O'Donnell of Medford, Heather Darrah of Topsfield, Angela Luna of Beverly, Avery Richardson of Danvers, Michell Brewer of Wakefield, Kyera Tamagini of Wakefield, Victoria Buccinio of Revere and Katie Graham of Revere.

     Students from this academy attend a Shakespeare Acting Class with Director John Basil in New York City in June in preparation for an outstanding Drama Season.

     The music students are preparing to make a CD of Christmas music that will be on sale in the fall. Athletes are preparing for a busy season as other Nazareth students took a course in sailing, preparing for Sailing club on Lake Quannapowitt. Young artists are painting stained glass windows in the chapel as well as working on their own masterpieces and fashion designs. Summer reading and writing as well as preparation of higher math and science accomplishments are ongoing.

     "Opportunities for Christian service at home and abroad are an integral part of this exciting community," the spokesperson added. Two members of the junior class, Victoria Bucchino and Kyera Tamagini, recently returned from a Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic.

     "Young women preparing for careers in law will attend legal seminars and participate in mock trial and model UN. Future careers in medicine, math and science will all be a part of our strong curriculum preparation. Young women are invited to grow into the "Best Version of Themselves" as they complete their high school education in this academy of academic, aesthetic and spiritual excellence, preparing them for a life of leadership and service," said the spokesperson.
