Nazareth Academy Girls Invited to Elite Shakespearean Class in NYC

Wakefield Item, Thursday, June 25, 2009

Wakefield -   Nazareth Academy, recently opened at 27 Cordis St., is already making headlines with its stellar performing arts department. Twelve students from Nazareth Academy in Wakefield recently embarked to New York City on a theater and arts trip.  They will be taking a Shakespeare Master Class through Broadway Classroom at Manhattan Theatre Club. The master class will be led by John Basit, producing artistic director of the American Globe Theatre.

The students from Nazareth will navigate NYC with acting teacher Patricia Tamagini-Dayhoff who has lived in NYC for 12 years working as an actor in theater, television and film. Tamagini-Dayhoff trained at Boston University and the British Academy of Dramatic Arts at Oxford University in England.

The students visited cultural centers such as Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. For some, it was their first time in New York.

Nazareth's headmaster, Patricia Capone Tamagini, was also along for the trip.  "I was delighted to see so many students, from graduated seniors to current freshmen, really bonding over this experience and learning so much outside the classroom" she says, "This is just one of the many opportunities that Nazareth Academy provides."

The students performed The Sound of Music this past spring and, The Auditioners by Doug Rand this past winter for the Massachusetts High School Dram Festival. The team is currently rehearsing for a Christmas album to be recorded this summer. It will be made available this October.
