The Arts

Nazareth Academy strongly encourages its students to pursue their interests in the visual arts and performing arts.  Participation in the arts encourages students to react to, record and share impressions of the world. The goal of the Arts Department is to enable students to experience, understand and enjoy the visual and performing arts, including studio art, music, speech, theater and dance.

The program encourages individual creative expression, the development of specific skills in each area, communication with public through exhibitions and performances and appreciation of all art forms. Teachers from each discipline work collaboratively whenever possible. Courses provide a recognition of the role of the arts in history and in the contemporary world.

Visual Arts

 In studio art classes, students are guided to fulfill their individual potential by acquiring and developing skills and techniques in a variety of media. They learn to communicate in an original, personal style.  Aesthetics, art history, art criticism and contemporary developments are introduced in classes and through field trips, visiting artists, and exhibitions by the students themselves.

Visual arts classes are an important way for the students to express themselves. Student artwork is often displayed through the school. The art teacher will help those students who have professional artistic goals with portfolio development.

Performing Arts 

The performing arts is an essential component of Nazareth Academy. The enthusiasm for drama and music is seen in the girls as they prepare daily for voice lessons or as they prepare for an upcoming performance or show.  

The performing arts helps to develop skills that the students will use and find invaluable in their every day lives. Skills in listenting, having the ability to find their own voice, the comfortableness to share their views and opinions with others and the opportunity to solve problems all while working towards a common goal.

Through drama, music and dance girls will find expression for their unique voices, and learn techniques to help them experience artistry at the highest level in each discipline.
